Together with six employees, Monica and Paul assist their customers in their search for the ideal house or apartment, as a holiday home or permanent residence in the south of Spain. 'This is how we make our customers' dreams come true: a pleasant life on the Mediterranean coast of Spain,' Paul explains enthusiastically.

Paul, how did Bemont's real estate story begin?

"After more than twenty years as director finance and management consultant at various multinationals, it started to itch to do something else and change my career path. Meanwhile, I had been active for fifteen years in building, renovating, buying and selling real estate. My Spanish-speaking wife Monica also had experience in the real estate sector through her parents' real estate office.

In 2012 the big change came. Monica and I had booked a winter trip to the Caribbean. But due to circumstances we had to change our holiday into a trip to Marbella. We had already been to the Spanish seaside resort several times and I did not have high expectations this time. It was the month of December and the weather forecasts were not so good. Moreover, I had set my sights on the Caribbean... But it was a fantastic holiday. It didn't take long before we bought an apartment there.

It was the start of a beautiful adventure because in 2013 Bemont Marbella was born. Our own real estate office: a dream came true! In the beginning it was very hard work, but gradually we got to know our way. I dare say that today we are among the leading real estate agents of the Costa del Sol. Soon we expanded our offer to the Costa Blanca under the commercial name 'Spain SecondHome by Bemont'.

What can people turn to Bemont for?

"If you are looking for your own home under the Spanish sun, you can call on our experience and expertise. Bemont sells luxury villas and apartments. In Marbella we operate in four major zones: East Marbella (from Río Real to Mijas Costa), Central Marbella (Puerto Banús, Golden Mile and Nueva Andalucía), West Marbella (Benahavis, Estepona and San Pedro de Alcántara) and Sotogrande.

In the Costa Blanca we are active in both Costa Blanca North (Denia, Javea, Moraira, Benissa Costa and Altea) and Costa Blanca South (Elche, Torrevieja, Orihuele Costa, Villamartin, Las Colinas, La Manga Club). People who want to sell a property can also work with us.

We always make sure that everything is done correctly in accordance with Spanish legislation and that we are in order with the mandatory administrative procedures. We have good contacts with local lawyers and tax specialists who speak fluent Dutch, French, English and Spanish."

Besides real estate, Bemont Marbella specializes in project development. Can you tell us a little more about that?

"We offer new-build villas and villas for sale on plan. We work together with a number of carefully selected architects, construction companies and interior designers, each of whom is top of their field and has an excellent reputation in the region. We do the complete project management. Among other things, we coordinate the works and keep customers informed of progress. We help to request quotations from suppliers and advise them on how to make the right choice. This way they can sleep on both ears. Investors and project developers can also turn to Bemont."

What type of homes is most popular today?

"About 90% of the homes we sell are new-build. It was only after the crisis that the strict European standards on air conditioning, insulation, design, finishing, etc. came into force in Spain. The result is that buyers prefer a more recent home, because it is of better quality."

What exactly attracts buyers in Marbella & the Costa Blanca?

"It's a combination of a wonderful climate and many opportunities for relaxation. Beautiful beaches, numerous golf courses, picturesque white mountain villages, refined cuisine: it's good living there. Apart from the warm summer, autumn is usually very mild. The climate in Marbella and on the Costa Blanca is quite similar. Between these two regions there is a temperature difference of at most a few degrees. This attracts many people to escape the dark autumn and winter months in Belgium."
